Values

UNITY

Sometimes the political division in our country seems overwhelming, but at a local level, there is hope. I want to be a part of the solution, not the problem, by ensuring that all parents have a seat at the table and are represented in School Board discussions. We shouldn't be making decisions simply based on what is expedient or easy. We should be able to dialogue with one another, join forces and combine resources where there is agreement. Let's all work together to further the interests of our children.

COMMUNICATION

As a board member and a parent of students in the district it is important that I am in constant discussion with other parents. I hope you will take a few minutes to complete our Parent Survey so that I can hear what is important to you about our district. Right now, interacting with the School Board is a one-way street. I will be hosting or participating in multiple events over the next few months to provide a forum for feedback and two-way communication.

TRANSPARENCY

Over the years there have been multiple questions raised to the board that have either been insufficiently addressed or not answered at all. It's important that all stakeholders in our community have as much information as possible to make decisions and be assured their elected officials are working for them. As a taxpayer and resident of the school district, the School Board answers to you and spends your money. It's only fair that they should be crystal clear about how that is happening and where those funds are going.

ACCOUNTABILITY

If you have a concern or an idea and want to help improve our school district, there should be clear and easy pathways for those to be considered. For instance our School Board focuses a lot of time on issues that are not related to our languishing student proficiency scores, while nobody is held accountable. It's important that you as parents feel as though you're not just sitting on the sidelines, but can be a part of the solution by helping innovate, make suggestions, and highlight shortcomings. Likewise, those in charge should be held responsible for their decisions and the results.
